What Are Dentures?

Older couple with dentures smiling and feeling confident in the new appearance. Dentures are natural-looking, removable replacement teeth. At John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC, we offer a variety of both low-cost full dentures and partial dentures.

What Type Of Dentures Do I Need?

Traditional Removable Dentures

Traditional full dentures or "false teeth" are used when a patient’s natural teeth have all been removed. Once the gum tissue has healed, conventional full dentures hug the contour of your jaw, creating a seal against your gums. They are removable for easy care and are adjusted to uniquely fit each patient.

Partial Dentures

If you aren’t missing all of your teeth, a partial denture can be used as an alternative to a bridge or multiple dental implants. Removable partial dentures clasp into place and are supported by your existing teeth.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant retained dentures (also known as "overdentures") can significantly restore the quality of life for many patients. Loss of a tooth can cause problems with basic, day-to-day activities like chewing or even speaking. Our John Day dental patients can find relief from discomfort and inconvenience with these removable "snap-in" dentures that are stabilized using dental implants.

Overdentures

This type of denture is designed to replace up to 12 teeth on your upper or lower jaws. This durable prosthesis is placed on titanium dental implants, making it a permanent solution if you've been suffering from the loss of multiple teeth.

Overdentures can also be an ideal solution if you currently have dentures but are tired of them causing irritation to your gums and sliding around your mouth.

How Do I Take Care Of My Dentures?

Dentures, just like natural teeth, require daily care in order to stay clean and keep dangerous bacteria from growing. It’s important to keep your dentures clean in order to keep your smile healthy.

Plaque and tartar can build up on your dentures just like on your natural teeth. It’s important to brush your dentures daily and rinse them after each meal.
