At John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC, our gentle family dentistry services are designed to help you keep your smile healthy, strong, and bright at our John Day, OR family dentist office. Our dental team believes in the power of preventive dental care and effective oral hygiene habits to help protect your smile for life. Dr. McMillan recommends a dental checkup every six months so you can stay ahead of any developing oral health problems.
During your regular teeth cleaning appointment, our family dental team will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for any signs of gum disease, oral cancer or tooth decay. If we see anything concerning, we will fully inform you and discuss your treatment options with you. Our family dentist and our dental staff are here to be your partner in protecting your oral health and in promoting your overall wellness!
John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC offers a full spectrum of gentle family dentistry and preventive dental services, including:
Professional Teeth Cleanings (Dental Prophylaxis)
Dental prophylaxis is a cleaning procedure that thoroughly cleans the teeth. It is an important preventive measure to help stop the progression of gingivitis and periodontal disease. We recommend our orally healthy patients schedule a dental cleaning twice a year.
Teeth-Strengthening Mineral Application
This teeth-strengthening mineral treatment is applied to your teeth to help support your healthy tooth enamel. This simple treatment can re-mineralize weak areas of tooth enamel, keeping your teeth more resilient against the types of bacteria that can cause cavities.
Desensitizing Treatments for Sensitive Teeth
Are you suffering from sensitive teeth? Does it hurt to drink cold beverages or eat hot foods? There's no reason to suffer from tooth sensitivity! Ask Dr. McMillan which desensitizing treatment would be the best option for your smile during your next dental checkup.
Oral Cancer Screening
Tobacco users aren’t the only ones who should be concerned about oral cancer. Oral cancer is a serious condition that may occur even in patients who don't smoke or chew tobacco. That’s why, at John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC, we provide oral cancer screenings as part of our regular checkups with all of our patients over the age of 18.
Chronic halitosis affects more than 50 million people in the United States alone. Common halitosis remedies like mouthwashes and breath mints can mask the symptoms, but you may need a dentist's help to treat the root cause of your bad breath. Schedule an appointment with Dr. McMillan today to discuss your halitosis treatment options.
Our practice uses digital x-rays to produce enhanced computer images of our patient’s teeth, gums, oral structures, and other oral health conditions. Digital x-rays are the key to early detection of decay and effective treatment of dental problems.
The Wand® Pain-Free Injection
At John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC, we offer The Wand, a state-of-the-art digital platform for local anesthesia distribution. This pain-free injection technology is more comfortable than a traditional syringe, reducing your pain and helping you relax in the dental chair.
DIAGNOdent™ (Caries Detection)
Laser Diagnodent caries detection is key to early detection of cavities. This technology pinpoints small areas of decay before they’re visible during a dental exam or even on an x-ray.
Gentle Tooth Extractions
Our goal at John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC is to help you keep your natural teeth. That's why we view extraction as a last resort, but sometimes it can be necessary if your tooth is infected or too damaged to save. Badly infected and damaged teeth can damage your healthy teeth and gums, so it's important to remove them when necessary.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
The best time to have your wisdom teeth removed is during your late teenage years or early twenties. Immature wisdom teeth are smaller, so the removal is less complicated and potentially less painful. If your wisdom teeth have not started to erupt, we can use x-ray imaging to locate them and determine the best time to have them removed.
If you or your child are involved in any type of sport or athletic activity, a custom-fitted mouthguard can be one of your best pieces of insurance. Not only does it protect the teeth, it can also reduce the risk of concussion.
Cold Sore Treatment
For patients suffering from cold sores or canker sores, Dr. McMillan often recommends topical treatment with Debacterol®. Dr. McMillan will gently dry the cold sore with a cotton swab and then apply Debacterol. You'll notice your pain will be gone in just a few seconds! After 3-5 days the cold sore is replaced by healthy tissue.
